Welcome to Red Barn Ranch!
Our farm is located just north of Harrisonville, Missouri, a short drive south of Kansas City. When you come for a visit you will find there is something here for people of all ages on our real working farm! Whether you’re looking to see cows grazing on pasture or you want to feed the animals in the barn, we have it here! You can pick pumpkins that are grown right here in the patch where we plant them ourselves. If you are wanting family fun experiences such as a corn maze, corn cannon, giant slides or picturesque photo taking opportunities, we have it!
Feel free to bring a picnic lunch and have a fun day enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the farm!
If you recently saw Matt on the Netflix Series “Queer Eye: More Than a Makeover” Season 4, you know we have a lot of plans for the future! We are actively pursuing renovating a 100 year old barn for an all-season event space which can house anything from field trips to weddings and business events. With a bit a luck, and hopefully soon, we will also have our own unique version of a farm to table dinner on a regular basis.
The pumpkin patch opens to the public the last two weekends in September and is open every weekend in October. We’ll post hours closer to the season opening. We look forward to seeing you this fall!
Red Barn Ranch was started in 2013 with the idea to grow pumpkins to help support the new farm Matt had just purchased for his family. Growing pumpkins was one thing, but the interaction of getting to show people a little bit of farm life soon became Matt’s biggest passion. After the first year with a failed crop, he trudged on and planted again the next year.
People were excited to come pick pumpkins, but they looked a little lost. Matt finally asked someone if they were looking for something. The man replied back with, “where’s your activities”? Matt, never stepping foot on another pumpkin patch, but with a creative mind, set out and created the activities you experience now. That first season started with some small games, but each year he’s added something new and exciting. New for this year, you can climb the stairs to the observation deck that’s built atop a 1960’s grain truck placed between the pumpkin patch and corn maze, then zoom down the grain truck bed to get to the ground. Matt’s quest to show you a bit of history and let you connect with his farm and agriculture is ever evident.
When hard times hit his family, Matt’s friends and family jumped in to help him through the months that followed. That year was hard, but they were here to help him prepare for and run the pumpkin patch. He is so grateful for their help and encouragement, without them RBR would not be here today. Now a couple years out, many of Matt’s family and friends still help with the season and help him with his creative projects.
Over the years this picturesque farm has become the destination for several friends weddings, family reunions, and lots of photographs. Matt wants to grow RBR to offer family-friendly events all year.
